Why Low Waste Growing?

For years, we’ve been actively working to reduce our footprint by making responsible purchasing decisions and recycling soft plastics, styrofoam, and other non-curbside-recycleable items. But we wanted to do more.

Frustrated by the amount of waste in our industry, we’re moving toward eliminating plastic and single-use disposables wherever possible.

Packaging our most popular products in recycled paper, returnable glass, and compostable burlap is one positive step we can take to help create change.

How to recycle, return, or reuse your Low Waste Growing packaging

Burlap

Outdoor potting soils are packaged in burlap, which can be composted in Vancouver green bins or reused in the garden.

Glass

Liquid fertilizers are packaged in returnable, refillable glass jars. Reuse or recycle your jar at home, or return it to Figaro’s to receive 10% off your refill.

Recycled paper

We package our dry fertilizers, amendments, and specialty potting blends in recycled paper bags that are 60% compostable and 40% biodegradable. These bags are lined with PLA, a biodegradable, corn-based material that strengthens and improves the durability of the bag. While PLA is compostable in many jurisdictions, it is not yet accepted in Vancouver’s green bin program. Please responsibly dispose of these bags by placing them in the trash, or reusing them in the garden.
